Many people think that the only reason they got through life is because of the one thing they had. That one thing that kept their spirits high, the thing they could resort to in hard times, the thing to depend on. Without this thing, they all claim to not have been able to make it, theres nothing else they could've done. I had a thought today some of you might have had already: If you didnt have this thing wouldnt it be replaced by that thing? My current thing is music and art, but if i never had some kind of creative tendancy, then surely i would have something else.

Its the importance of being detached to things that you beleive make you happy. Embrace them, enjoy them, but i wouldn't attach.

Just as the plough furrows the earth deeply, purifying it of weeds and thistles, so suffering and tribulation free man from the petty affairs of this worldly life until he arrives at a state of complete detachment.

(Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 178)

It isn't just what we have; its what we don't have that defines us just as much. Many times people forget this and focus only on what they have. I have a car, a job, a family and good health - and for this i am happy and grateful. What about if you lose your job? Or your health becomes fragile? Then you have nothing.

So my point is this: to try and think about everything that defines who you are. What you have and love and what you don't. Its a whole other side to you that makes you what you are. Attachment is a contract for sadness. Things come as fast as they go. If you are truly detached these things cannot make you sad! BE HAPPY!
